Shields Mini-Regatta

General

A Shields Mini-Regatta will be held on Sunday September 16, 2012. It will consist of up to four races and will be a “tune-up” regatta for the Shields Nationals. The Beverly Yacht Club (BYC) Sailing Instructions will apply.

Eligibility

Any Shields which complies with Class Rules is eligible to participate in the Mini-Regatta.

Entry and Fees

There will be no fee to enter this event. Visitors and local yachts planning to enter this event should sign up at Regatta Networks (https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta_id=5339) and contact Andrea Van Inwegen at andreavan@verizon.net by Thursday September 13th.

Launching and Hauling

Launching for visiting Shields on trailers is Saturday September 15, 2012 between 1300 and 1500. There will be no launching and hauling fees for visiting Shields on trailers signed up for the Shields National Regatta. The launch on September 15 is in lieu of launching September 19. Reservations for launching on September 15, 2012 must be received by September 13, 2012. Shields launched on Saturday, September 15, 2012 will not be hauled until Saturday September 23, 2012. Owners must make their own arrangements, at their own expense, for launching/hauling any other day or time. See the Shields Nationals Notice of Race for complete haul out restrictions.

Mooring

Moorings will be available through the Beverly Yacht Club on a first come basis. All visitors will be accommodated with at least rafting space. There may be a mooring fee.

Start

The first warning signal will be at 1100 in Outer Sippican Harbor (Marion, MA). There shall be no start after 1530.

Courses

Around-the-buoys courses using BYC race marks will be used. Distances will vary with the weather and the judgment of the race committee.

Scoring

If four races are completed one race may be thrown out as part of a yacht’s score. One race will constitute a Regatta.

Prizes

Regatta prizes (provided by Shields Fleet #10) for first, second and third places will be awarded after racing at BYC.

Mandatory Skippers Meeting

There will be a mandatory skippers meeting at 0930 at the BYC on the day of the race. The Sailing Instructions including race mark charts will be provided and discussed. Yacht and helmsman eligibility as well as other rules of the regatta will also be discussed at the meeting and shall be presumed settled at the skippers meeting and thereafter not be grounds for protest.
